We saw The Black Fields supporting another band at the Star in Guildford and what a show it was.. We’ve been pestering them for a while now and are happy to announce they will be on the Staycation Live 2019 line-up!
Formed after hours in the bars of the serendipitous City of Brighton, The Black Fields found common ground over a record collection & love of rock’n’roll. They are fronted by the theatrical baritone voiced Ross Scarfield, and Madrid born, unique sounding guitarist and vocalist Diego Alcacer.
Boasting a blend of their proud influences such as Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Tom Waits, Leonard Cohen, Scott walker, to name a few… their live shows have been described as electrifying, theatrical and spell-binding, echoing well crafted traditional style song writing and exiting personal personas.
Guitarist Tristan Sherfield, drummer and multi-instrumentalist Russ Callaghan Grooms and bassist and producer Alex Winter complete the five piece line up who are set to record their latest EP shortly, followed by a launch campaign and new videos.
For now you can catch The Black Fields at venues across the South East and soon on a broader horizon.
The acts are coming in thick and fast Staycationeers and the next one is sure not to disappoint. We’re delight to announce that Knocksville will be on Staycation Live 2019 Lineup. The Eastbourne 3 piece went from Rockabilly to Psychobilly in the year 2014 and since then have played major festivals all around the UK and Europe spreading their infectious brand of high energy punk infused rock and roll.
They have supported internationally award winning Imelda May and are now signed to her label playing some of the largest festivals around Europe. Their new E.P called “The Crazy Ex” has been making waves on the psychobilly scene whilst picking up fans with their fantastic live appearances at major festivals. They are sure to make a hell of a noise at Staycation Live 2019 and we can’t wait for them to knock us out of the park !
“ Described elsewhere on this site as a “50’s style “punks” Knocksville, with a heavy train-like sound featuring great slap bass, banging drums, as well as a punk/rockabilly guitar player. Although fairly simplistic, as many three-piece acts are, they also had a direct powerful sound that gave their show an undeniably rocking edge” – Source Mag
You can never have enough Ska music at a festival, well, says these festival bookers anyway…So we’re very happy to be able to announce Ska/Dub/Punk outfit Popes of Chillitown will be performing at this years Staycation Live Festival.
POPES OF CHILLITOWN have been rampaging through the UK scene for the last few years like an unstoppable grooving, skanking juggernaut. A straight-up ska-punk band they are not, expertly mashing the energy of upbeat ska, punk, 2-tone and drum & bass with the groove of reggae and dub, adding in the lyrical flow of hip hop and finishing it all off with a generous helping of catchy melodies and hooks. The result has been likened to artists such as Capdown, Skindred, The Beat, The Police and Jamie T.
After releasing their pledge-funded debut album ‘A Word To The Wise’ in 2013, the band have had a relentless touring schedule across the UK and into Europe, seeing them play banging headline shows, festivals and support slots with the likes of Reel Big Fish, The Selecter, The Skints, Imperial Leisure, [Spunge], Mouthwash, The Snare and many more.
May 2015 saw them release their sophomore album ‘To The Moon’, an explosive tour-de-force of groove and energy with a lifetime’s worth of lyrical hooks, melodies and bass lines.
“The sharpest, tightest Ska sound we have ever had on the show” – Tom Robinson BBC 6
“If you’re looking for a band who play the kind of ska punk that’s infused with a variety of styles and influences like Capdown and The King Blues were so great at, then get this second album from Popes Of Chillitown.” – Big Cheese (8/10)
“We all come across live acts that blow our minds enough that we need to tell the whole world about them, and recently for me London ska band Popes Of Chillitown became that band.” – RockFreaks (9/10)
“Without having left behind any of their fun and fury, Popes have matured their sound and packed their latest offering full of heart and intelligence.” – The Punk Archive
“It is a marvellous achievement from the other side of the pond.” – ReadJunk (4/5)
Bristol-based 4 piece, No Violet, powerfully retain your attention with their enthralling performances of their idiosyncratic blend of fuzz-infused grunge/alt rock and semi-contorted math rock. Ellie (vox), Pete (drums), Rhys (guitar), and Kerry (bass) captivate their audience through a manipulating dynamic range that echoes early Pixies with an added split personality disorder. The release of single ‘Be My Friend’ in June saw them feature regularly on BBC Intro radio play ahead of upcoming debut EP, Faces, release on September 14th 2018 via Leisure Records.
“With a whole lot of love from DIY, BBC Introducing and broadsheet heavyweight The Independent – No Violet are setting themselves up for a stonking few years ahead.” – PRS M Magazine
“The best thing around at the moment. Broke my mind, fixed it back again, much better – Adam Walton, BBC Radio Wales
“Tasty, fuzzy goodness” – Tom Robinson, BBC Radio 6
